Instrument Rating (IREX / PIFR)

Take to the sky when weather would otherwise leave you grounded.

An Instrument Rating enables you faster, safer and more efficient flight. Fly under the Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) in most weather conditions under the watchful eye of air traffic control.

PIFR or IR?

Deciding between a Private IFR Rating (PIFR) or an Instrument Rating (IR) can be confusing. But it doesn’t have to be. Whether you fly for fun, for business or with a career goal in aviation, flying under the IFR is the safest way to fly. And Avia Aviation are the Instrument Rating experts.

The Private IFR Rating

Most private clients choose the PIFR for its efficiency, cost effectiveness and ability to customise the training package. PIFR training is generally completed in 20 hours, versus 40 hours for an Instrument Rating.

The PIFR allows for a flight to be conducted under the IFR and is designed for PPL holders who only require a few approach authorisations. The capability of the rating can be extended by adding flight procedure authorisations (FPAs). This allows for the use of extra navigational aids, instrument arrivals and departures, and night flying.

The Avia PIFR training program is designed around our technically-advanced aircraft. Our flexible lessons allow clients to depart into non-VMC weather and use the on-board avionics systems to their full potential.

The Instrument Rating

The complete Instrument Rating involves training in all approach types, departure and arrival procedures, and night operations. Training is generally completed in 40 hours and is often finished in one of our multi-engine aircraft. An Instrument Rating is a pre-requisite for most commercial pilot roles.
